Platt Winding House

The Platt winding house is thought to be the oldest surviving structure at Chatterley Whitfield and was constructed in 1883.
According to a 2000 Industrial Archaeology survey it contains a underground steam driven haulage engine which came from Silverdale. It was made by John Warner and Sons of George Street, Hanley, Stoke on Trent
It dates date to the middle of the 19th century and is a unique survivor as it is one of the earliest horizontal steam engines known to exist and believed to be the earliest twin cylinder horizontal steam engine in existence.....
